Kano dry port to generate 24,000 direct jobs, NSC claims

Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) has said strategic effort is being made to revamp the Kano Dry land Ports, with capacity to generate more than 24,000 direct job opportunities. The dry land port, which has not been put to full operational use, has the capacity to enhance modern cargo trade system in Kano.

Executive secretary of the council, Hassan Bello hinted the plans on Thurday when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at Government house, Kano. Bello said the council is working with the Kano state government to reinvigorate the dry ports which he was optimistic will reposition business and industrial viability of Kano.

Bello also disclosed that Kano has been selected alongside Enugu and Lokoja in Kogi state, for the establishment of Truck Transit Parks in the country, emphasising that transit parks is strategic in regulating the movement of cargo transport while retuning safety and civility to the nations highways. The facilities are also in compliance with ECOWAS guideline, which encourages drivers to stop and rest after every six hours on a long journey.

Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who received the delegation on behalf of Ganduje, gave assurance and pledged their support towards the resuscitation of the dry port.
