Former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu has advised groups and components of Abia North Senatorial zone demanding the 2023 governorship slot to work towards it, by competing with other interested groups and not just sitting back.

Kalu in a chat with The Guardian said the recent demands by his Ohafia Udumeze Clan kinsmen, and the Isuikwuato District Welfare Union for the slot were legitimate demands that should not be discountenanced.

Going by the rotation arrangement among the three senatorial zones of the state, the slot would, in 2023 return to Abia North from where it started so that another round of rotation would begin.

Kalu, who maintained that other components of Abia North were also free to compete for the coveted position, added, “ yes, I have given my people my support because Ohafia has not produced the governor before. But I also told them that we ought to stand together and reach out to other communities and components of the zone if we must succeed.

“In spite of the fact that we are qualified, deserve it, and have what it takes, we have to work hard to get it as agitating for, and claiming it when there are other components in the zone is not the way to go. It is those that work for it and reach out to others that will get it. So, we are going to work for it and not sit back for it to come to us because we deserve it,” he said.
