JED to achieve one million new customers by mid-2018
Managing Director of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED), Mallam Mohammed Gidado Modibbo, has disclosed that JED’s target is to achieve over one million new customers by the middle of next year in order to achieve 80 per cent connectivity milestone by 2019.
Modibbo added that the growth in customer base is part of the firm’s strategy to grow electricity sales and ensure the company’s long-term financial viability.
He made this known yesterday at the customer consultation forum, which held in Jos. He explained that mechanisms have been put in place to ensure sustenance of the customer data sanitization exercise and connection of about 178,675 new customers and the significant increase in total member of customers to 472,000 as at September 30, 2017.
According to him, “this is why the successful implementation of the metering plan is of critical importance to us. JED is committed to reducing the losses in its distribution network and improve the quality of electricity supply, which is the driver of productivity and economic growth.
Modibbo further disclosed that they were going to re-launch their metering programme, stressing that anybody disturbing their staff through stealing and vandalisation of electricity equipment will be prosecuted.
“Any customer found stealing electricity by bypassing the meters installed by our staff will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. Electricity theft is a criminal offence which will no longer be tolerated,” he stressed.
