Says 1.6m registered for UTME, ends sale of application forms

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it would deploy all available resources to arrest and prosecute the ‘snake’ that allegedly swallowed government’s N36 million in its vault.

The Board maintained that there was no place for any form of crime to thrive in the running of its activities. Its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Fabian Benjamin, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Abuja, said: “Management is working to arrest this “alleged snake’ that swallowed governments’ N36 million and a host of others still in the system and hand them over to the appropriate quarters.”

An official of the board in Benue State had claimed that a mysterious snake swallowed N36 million from the board’s office vault. The officer, Philomina Chieshe, a sales clerk, had accused her maid of colluding with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to ‘spiritually’ steal the money from the vault in the accounts office through a spiritual snake.

Chieshe, had revealed this when she was unable to account for N36 million she made for the agency from the sale of scratch cards.Benjamin explained that the board was ready to arrest and prosecute the officer telling the story of an alleged mysterious snake as an alibi of how the money disappeared.

Meanwhile, JAMB has announced the closure of sales of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application forms. It said yesterday that all candidates who paid and obtained ePins and are holding such ePins were allowed to complete their registration within 24 hours.

“For purposes of emphasis, this applies to only candidates who initiated the registration process and procured the registration ePins but could not register at any accredited CBT Center for one reason or the other.

“Take note that candidates are not to generate any profile codes (55019) for the purpose of 2018 UTME registration, as doing so would have no effect and a waste of time and resources. Profile codes generation through 55019 will only be used for Direct Entry Registration, which is still ongoing,” it stated.

The board commenced the sale of the 2018 UTME registration on December 6, 2017 and was to close on February 6, 2018 but extended to February 11.It disclosed that at the close of ePin vending, no fewer than 1, 662,818 candidates paid and obtained the ePins, while 1,650,547 successfully registered for the 2018 UTME.
