JAMB candidates plead against server failure

Owing to the several complaints of technical hitches recorded in some computer-based test centres from candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) last year, candidates have called for an overhaul of the systems at many of the test centres to avoid the reoccurrence of server breakdown that almost marred the conduct of the exam last year.

They made this known yesterday during the conduct of a mock test where over 250 candidates went through the JAMB portal and login details to get themselves acquainted with the exam hold later this month.

It would be recalled that after series of postponement, the computer-based test held not without some hitches experienced in some centres in April 2019.

In a bid to ease the students’ apprehension and get them fully ready for the exam, the Rotary Club of Agege yesterday enrolled 250 students of public schools who are preparing for UTME for a mock exam at Lufem Systems limited, Agege area of Lagos State.

President of the club, Rtn. Emmanuel Eneh, who led other members including the Youth Service Chair, Rtn. Victoria Kapo and the club secretary, Rtn. Femi Odugbemi, said the aim is to acquaint the students with the computers and portals “because what we noticed is that in the past, many of them who are even brilliant don’t do well in the exam as a result of difficulties encountered navigating through the portal online.

“When they come to the centre, one hour after, they are still sweating trying to even log in because they are not familiar with the portal or computer use. This is why we brought 250 candidates from several public schools in Agege here to introduce them to the system and how to navigate through it successfully so they won’t be frightened on the examination day. The programme is under our education and basic literacy project.”
