JAF, others protest against fuel price hike in Ibadan

A human rights group, the Joint Action Front (JAF), Oyo State chapter, yesterday, protested in Ibadan against the recent hike in the pump price of petrol, electricity tariff, Value Added Tax (VAT) and other policies of the current Federal Government.

It urged mass action against the decision by the Federal Government.

The JAF, a coalition of pro-Labour, radical and socialist-oriented civil service organisations under Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), at a press conference held at the NLC office In Ibadan, urged all Nigerians to resist the onslaught until total reversal is forced as this could only be achieved by sensitising the public on the reason to organise a fightback.

The Co-ordinator of JAF, Ademola Aremu, urged the Federal Government to have a total reversal of the hike in the price of petrol, electricity tariff and VAT at least to the 2016 N87 per litre.

Also, Chairman, NLC, Oyo State chapter, Olukayode Martins, who noted that COVID-19 crisis facing the country affected low income and middle-class citizens, urged every stakeholder to stand against the increase in the price of petrol and electricity tariff.
