Jabi Shoprite opens shop, defies planned siege on mall
The Jabi Lake Mall location of Shoprite in Abuja yesterday proceeded with operations despite losses sustained from violence and looting on some of its outlets nationwide.
When The Guardian visited the Mall yesterday at 8:25 a.m., only a light dispatch of policemen were stationed there for security.
An official of the mall said that full operations would be observed.
Shoprite had been targeted for a siege by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) who had announced plans to ‘shutdown’ the Jabi Lake Mall.
But as at the time of filing in this report, protesters were yet to arrive at the venue for the demonstration slated for 9:30 a.m. yesterday.
