Benin palace chiefs deny endorsing him

The standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has promised to partner commercial motorcycle riders to boost the transportation industry in the state.

He spoke while addressing members of the state’s Commercial Bike Riders Association (ESCOBRA).

Ize-Iyamu told them that if elected, he would formulate programmes and policies in the transport sector to ensure that no aspect of the state’s economy is left out.

He said: ‎”I am aware of the support that you gave to the outgoing governor, Adams Oshiomhole, when his mandate was taken from him. You were in the court anytime there was a session. On such days, you did not work. I feel your pains because I know that your families and dependents have found things difficult since the ban on your operations.”

The chairman of the group, Sylvester Obaweki announced the association’s support for him

He said the members, drawn from the 18 local councils areas of the state, are fully in his support and would unite to change the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, whose promised change in 2015 is due to be changed.

Meanwhile, the purported endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, by the Benin palace chiefs has been refuted.

The Eghaevbo-N’ore group, made up of top palace chiefs, led by the Iyase of Benin, Sam Igbe, yesterday described the reported endorsement as misleading and untrue.

Addressing journalists after an emergency meeting of the group, the Esogban of Benin, David Edebiri explained that as top chiefs in the palace of the Oba of Benin, they do not endorse candidates.
