Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a youth as the next managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

President of IYC, Eric Omare, made the plea yesterday in Warri during a meeting with some community youth leaders from Edo and Delta states.

The IYC president claimed that the struggles of Niger Delta youths gave birth to interventionist agencies in the a region such as NDDC, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) and Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

He, however, regretted that the presidency had always appointed aged people whom he said were not in touch with the youths and realities of the region – thereby depriving the region of the needed understanding and zeal to drive the required developments of the region.

This plea was made ahead of the May 29 inauguration of Buhari for second term as president and subsequent appointments.

Omare argued that the few occasions that relatively young people headed the NDDC and PAP were the best because of the young men’s understanding of the affairs of the region and their innate energy to carry out the enormous responsibilities of the office.
