Task President To Make Anti-Graft War Holistic
The Igbo Youth Congress (IYC) has commended the Federal Government for heeding to numerous calls for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who recently was granted bail by the court after a protracted trial.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, on some issues of national interest that have been in the front burner in recent time and of utmost concern to Igbo, especially the protracted incarceration and trial of Kanu, the IYC leadership comprising of the Vice President, Barr Kasarachi Oparah; Comrade Charles Nwanguma, National Director of Administration; Comrade Hillary Egwue, National Director of Security, and Comrade Madjer Okotu, Chairman Ebonyi State chapter, stated that as an organisation, they anxiously waited for the bail because he is an illustrious son of Igbo extraction.

The Vice President, Barr Kasarachi Oparah, said, despite the stringent bail conditions, which initially seemed difficult to meet, God in his infinite mercy made it possible through some eminent personalities from the Southeast region, particularly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who alongside others, volunteered and willingly signed the conditions that effected the bail.

He said, “We want to use medium to commend the federal government for the bail grant, though belated, it is a welcome development. We also want to commend those who volunteered and willing signed the bail conditions, particularly the distinguished senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe and other eminent personalities from the Southeast region, who laid own their integrity to ensure our brother and son is released. We enjoin other eminent individuals within and outside government that are from the Southeast to emulate the kind gesture exhibited by these people.”

On the release of the three members of the IPOB, who were detained with Kanu, the IYC leaders stated that he who fights and run away live to fight another day, adding that the struggle for their freedom continues.

“Already, there is one down; the fight for the release of the rest comrades is intensifying. Nnamdi Kanu cannot be released while the remaining people continue to languish in detention. If the court can in their wisdom release Nnamdi Kanu, they will also release the rest three because they jointly committed the same offence they alleged them of. They are working together as one organisation. So, we are optimistic that those that fought and secured the release of Nnamdi Kanu will also sought for the release of the rest IPOB members,” Oparah added.

Asked their position on the Peace Corp Bill, which the senate stepped down, the IYC leadership explained that as an organisation, they place premium on issues that are of utmost concerns to the youth, hence they are passionate about the Peace Corp Bill, which is designed to empower youths across the country.

“Our observations showed that some senators don’t want the bill to see light of the day. We see this a fight against the youth, and anything that affects the youth affect the future of this country. We are therefor, calling on the senators to have a rethink and ensure that the bill is passed as it is meant to better the lives of the youths. The Peace Corp bill is centred on empowering the youths, and when they are empowered crime waves within the society would be reduced and eliminated.”

On the war against corruption, the group said it is in support of the anti-graft war being championed by the Buhari administration, stressing that a corrupt person is an enemy of the society, irrespective of where he or she comes from or belong.

“IYC as an organisation is total support of this government’s war against corruption, and we enjoin everybody to join in the fight because corruption is endemic in our society. However, we want government to make war against corruption a holistic one irrespective of political inclination. We read and hear people daily complain about this government style of fight against corruption.”
