Iyano crisis: Witnesses decry inability to bury their dead

Witnesses at the ongoing public hearing on inquiry into the Iyano Community crisis yesterday called on the Government to help the people of Aluaja whose kinsmen’s bodies are in the mortuary because they have no place to bury them.

They also begged for a quick resolution to the crisis so they could return to their farms as they had lost two farming seasons already to the crisis.

Governor Yahaya Bello inaugurated a panel of inquiry over the crisis, with a mandate to draw recommendations for lasting solutions to the dispute. Arsonists razed this same community down in May last year and people were left homeless.

Speaking at the public hearing yesterday a former Counselor in Ibaji Local Government Honorable Lucky Apeh said several bodies are in the mortuary for want of a place to bury them.

A Play right director for Grandpa International Sierra Leone, Inaju U. Inaju who is also a stakeholder from Aluaja, said he had been at the open hearing from the beginning and said the presentations from the Itali people validate that of the Aluaja as far as the kingship tussle is concerned. He also commended Governor Bello for taking the bull by the horn to sincerely look into the crisis.

According to him, this problem is older than 50 years and keeps rearing it’s ugly head every four or five years.
