Iwu meets bail conditions, released

Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Maurice Iwu, has been released from detention.

Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Maurice Iwu, has been released from detention.

Iwu, who was arraigned over fraud allegations, met the bail conditions on Friday.

Justice Chuka Obiozor had on August 9 admitted the professor of pharmacognosy to bail in the sum of N1 billion and two sureties in like sum.

The judge said that the first surety should be resident in Lagos State and should transmit his land use charge as evidence of ownership of property in Lagos and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment in the last three years.

As proof of address, the surety shall furnish the court with his statement of account with any bank in Nigeria with passport photograph and the bank shall depose that the photograph as true identity of the account holder, he added.
