Isolo Rotary raises fund for foundation
THE Rotary Club of Isolo, in conjunction with the Rotary Clubs of Okota, Akowonjo, Omole Golden, Ikeja GRA and Maryland has unveiled the ‘Play a game for the Rotary Foundation’ initiative, a first for the Rotary International District 9110 Nigeria.
The event, which took place at Leadway Protea Hotel, Maryland, featured prominent members including past District Governor, Michael Olawale Cole, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, world-class president, Femi Oshoniyi among others.
The president, Rotary Club of Isolo, Lolade Temitope-Ogungbe, described the event as a fund raising project for the Rotary Foundation, which is the engine and heartbeat of Rotary International.
Ogungbe, explaining the rationale behind the game, said: “The first game was free but playing a re-match attracted a minimum payment of N2,000. At the end of the day, we were able to generate appreciable fund for Rotary Foundation to sponsor projects,” she said.
The games ranged from traditional board games like scrabble, chess, Draught, Ayo, and ludo, among many others. The event, which was spiced up with other brain-tasking activities and jokes, brought out the competitive spirit among club members and guests.
Ogungbe lauded Cole’s contribution to the club as the grand ambassador of Rotary Club of Isolo and one of the pillars of Rotary International, who has committed himself to championing the course of Rotary worldwide with contributions to the tune of $250,000 to Rotary Foundation. She also appreciated Senator Ganiyu Solomon’s contribution as a major donor, who has donated over $10,000 to the Rotary Foundation to aid the work of Rotary across the world.
