Isoko monarch rules out land for cattle colony

The Odiologbo of Oleh Kingdom and Chairman, Isoko Traditional Council, HRM Anthony William Ovrawah Omogha 1, has urged his subjects to be vigilant and report any attacks, saying there was no land for cattle colony in the area.

The monarch made his position known while inaugurating chairmen of standing peace committees at his palace in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Council of Delta State.

Omogha 1 noted that the security of the kingdom and the people was paramount to him, stressing that any crisis that could result in gunshots must be avoided. He urged the chairmen and members of the various committees to refrain from issues that could cause disagreement.

The monarch recalled that an earlier statement by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on ‘No Land for Cattle Colony in Delta State’ was an affirmation of the peaceful coexistence between farmers and herdsmen in the state.

The royal father maintained that as the community expands, the quest for good leadership increases, stressing that the inaugurated committee chairmen and members were all indigenes of the kingdom.

He said: “Today commences your operation as leaders in various positions with me.”

The monarch commended former committee members for their contribution to the development of the community.

He urged the new committee members to accept any position assigned to them, even as he warned the chairmen of the standing committees against dereliction of duty.

The monarch sought for cooperation, restating his commitment for purposeful leadership.

The following committees were empanelled: Appeal and Peace Settlement; Land Dispute; Community Development; Land Development and Town Planning.

Others are Bride price and Wedding; Security Levy Collection; Education; Project Monitoring; Oletu-Ode and Osogba of Oleh committees.

He noted that the panel members were appointed to serve, urging them to be committed to the development of the kingdom.

While suing for peace and unity among committee members, the monarch, however, stated that all meetings must be held in the palace.

In attendance were the council chairman, Sir Itiako C. Ikpokpo, president general, Oleh Kingdom, Chief James Obeuwou and executive members as well as traditional rulers, women and youths among others.
