GOVERNOR Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba state yesterday commissioned a 400-megawatt hydropower project in Mambilla Plateau. The project, which is located in Kakara village in Mambilla Plateau, Sardauna Local Council area of the state, has not only revived the Mambilla Beverage Company which has employed hundreds of youth, but business activities in the community have also come to live.

The governor reiterated his willingness to embark on more Hydro Power Projects in Mambilla Plateau as the area is endowed with enough waterfalls that can be converted to hydropower.

Elated by the successful completion of the project, which was initiated by the immediate past governor, Danbaba Suntai and the incumbent governor when he was the Minister of State for Power, the project, according to Ishaku, would go a long way in pulling out the people from the dungeon of poverty into abundance.

The commissioning, Ishaku said, was “facilitated when I was the Minister of State for Power. It is strategic to the rescue agenda of my administration.”

He urged the people of the community to embrace peace and jealously protect the project from vandals. Flanked by his deputy, Haruna Manu, the speaker of the House of Assembly, Abel Peter Diah, immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Gibon T. Kataps and other dignitaries, the governor directed an immediate expansion of the project so as to make power available to nearby villages.
