The Lagos State police command is investigating two security guards, Kingsley Okon Asuquo, 19 and Isaac Edet, 18, assigned to guard a Lagos-based lawyer, McCarty Mbadugha, from Strongcity Security Services, but ended up allegedly attacking and robbing the same man that hired them for protective services.

The command, according to its spokesman, Chike Oti, had on October 13, at about 5:30p.m. received information from a credible source that armed bandits held one Barrister Joseph Mbadugha, aka Prof. McCarty Mbadugha, hostage in his office at JohnVic Igbanogo street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The armed men were seen wearing Strongcity Security Services uniform.

“Based on the information, operatives from Maroko Police Station and FSARS Ikeja jointly mobilised to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums ran in different directions to avoid being arrested but one of them, who gave his name as Isaac Edet, was nabbed at the scene.

“During interrogation, he mentioned and led detectives to arrest his partner in crime, Asuquo. Interestingly, both suspects are workers of Strongcity Security Services attached to the victim. They claimed the victim does not pay their salary as at when due; hence they planned with others at large to rob him.

“They succeeded in dispossessing the victim of a bag containing laptop computer, cash sum of N40,000, three cheque booklets, and one iPhone-6. All these items were recovered from the thieves in the course of investigation.”

Meanwhile, relatives of an Abuja-based businessman, Ayogu Great James, whose company, Great James Oil and Gas, was linked to the illegal importation of 1,570 pieces of pump action guns, intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service in September 2017, has raised an alarm that their brother, who appeared at the Customs Headquarters Abuja, last Thursday, is currently missing.

They told newsmen that one of their relatives, Tony Offor, who regularly visit and provide food for him, while in detention, was prevented from seeing him last Saturday and was told by some Customs officials at the gate that their brother was moved out from the facility at night and taken to an unknown destination. They said the development has thrown their entire family into panic as they fear for his life.

They wondered why the Customs are punishing a man innocent of the crime he is being accused, having assisted them in apprehending the real importer of the riffles, freight forwarders and bankers, who collectively imported these arms into the country.

Offor added that his brother, Great James, was invited by Customs last Thursday.
