INEC promises conclusive ballots
Group preaches peace, credible election
Amid several inconclusive elections in recent times, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the electorate next week’s polls would be final.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, spoke in Benin City after an Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
Olumekun urged voters to be law-abiding during and after the election.
He, however, attributed inconclusive elections to violence from the voters.
The outgone police commissioner in the state, Fimihan Adeoye, said the security agencies had made necessary arrangement ahead of the election, scheduled to hold on Wednesday next week.
He warned that nobody would be given the opportunity to disrupt the peace before and after the election.
Meanwhile, as part of activities marking the World Peace Day, a group has urged voters to embrace peace to ensure credible governorship polls.
The group, Organisation for Global Youths Peace and Empowerment Development Initiative (OGYPEDI), passed the message at a peaceful march across major streets in Benin City.
Led by its national Public Relations Officer, Michael Ipheghe, they took their rally to several places, including the Government House, the palace of Edaiken of Benin and the council secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
