INEC fixes date for Katsina rerun election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 10, this year for the re-run election for House of Representatives, Mashi/Dutsi Federal constituency seat, Katsina state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 10, this year for the re-run election for House of Representatives, Mashi/Dutsi Federal constituency seat, Katsina state. INEC Resident Commissioner for the state, Jibril Zarewa made the disclosure at a press conference yesterday.

Zarewa said following directives by the Election tribunal, the re-run election is to take place in 15 polling units spread across 10 registration areas of the two local government areas. He said the re-run polls would take place in nine polling units in Mashi local government area, including Tagura Yamma II, Dankada Makau, Agala K/G Bege, Agala Primary School, Guarta K/G Gyarta, Fara II K/G Fara, Tona-Tashar Kalgo, Badauri III KG Mai unguwa, and Bula Arewa II Primary school.

For Dutsi local government, the re-run election would take place in Jiling Daddo KG Mai Ung., Madawa K/G Mai Unguwa, Magami K/G Mai Unguwa, Matsakawa K/G Mai Unguwa, Shifali K/G Galadima, and Kaya. Zalewa said 130 ad-hoc staff including serving corps members in the state would be employed for the re-run election.

It would be recalled that INEC had initially held election into the Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency in May last year, which was won by the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Mansir Mashi. The election result was however challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the election tribunal.
