Imo State Police Command has arrested Mrs. Kate Duruji for impersonation as a lawyer. 

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Michael Abattam, stated yesterday that the suspect was arrested while trying to secure the release of a suspect in custody. 

Abattam said: “Following a case of fraud reported on June 30, 2021 under investigation, one Mrs. Kate Nneoma Duruji (f), 37, of Akakem’s Palace, Orji, Owerri, lmo State, who information revealed had been parading as a lawyer to unsuspecting victims, was formally arrested on July 5, 2021, when she falsely represented herself before the police as a barrister at law. 

“When she was interrogated, the suspect confessed to the crime, which led to the recovery of a lawyer’s wig conspicuously displayed on the dashboard of her Toyota Camry car with registration number ABUJA ABC 460 GG. Investigation is still ongoing; as soon as it is concluded, she will be arraigned.”

MEANWHILE, the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, has appealed to Imo people to be wary of fake lawyers and approach genuine solicitors and advocates.

He warned those whose stock in trade is impersonation to desist from such act to avoid the long arm of the law.

IN another development, Caleb and Greg Foundation (CAGG) has announced plans to offer scholarships to children of security personnel who were killed in the recent security crisis across the country. 

President of CAGG, Olusegun Bamgbose, during a press conference in Owerri, yesterday, said they had begun the collation of data from the affected children for the education programme.

He said the programme, commencing next academic year, would cover at least two children of each deceased officer.
