Imo: NDLEA arrest 97 suspected drug traffickers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Imo State Command has, between 2018 and 2019, arrested 97 suspected drug traffickers in possession of 378.70 kilogramme substance.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Imo State Command has, between 2018 and 2019, arrested 97 suspected drug traffickers in possession of 378.70 kilogramme substance.

The State Commander, Nse Inam, at the 2019 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held in collaboration with People Against Drug Dependence and Ignorance (PADDI), said an alleged clandestine laboratory for the manufacture of methamphetamine drug was uncovered by his officials in Obinigwu community, Orlu, Imo State. He added that the suspected manufacturers were undergoing trial at a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The commander disclosed that 30 of the arrested persons were undergoing rehabilitation. He commended MTN for awareness creation in schools.

Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, represented by Special Adviser, Security, Mr. Raymond Ikenguru, disclosed that the state government planed a committee on anti-drug abuse, partnering NDLEA.

Mr. Eze Eluchie, Director PAADI, a Non-Governmental Organisation, appealed to the Governor not to relent in his fight against drug abuse.
