Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, yesterday declared that he had used the last six years to lay foundation for the future.

He spoke during a thanksgiving service at the Gloryland Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa.

The service was to begin a weeklong programme to celebrate his sixth year in office.

He disclosed that key projects would also be inaugurated during the period.

He said: “The past six years had been very eventful, with a lot of trials, challenges and temptations, but also a lot of victories. But, with your support, we have charted a new course for development, stability and prosperity of the state.”

The governor disclosed that his administration has remained focused on the delivery of quality infrastructure in education, health and tourism.

According to him: “In a volatile climate, we have worked together to create a solid foundation. We have been working together as inspired people, despite distractions and economic challenges”

In his sermon, the General Overseer of the Shepherd Vine Church, Rev. Emmanuel Idemudia, said the governor’s seventh administration would witness greatness and prosperity.

As part of the activities, the government would this week, rename the popular Glory Drive, an access road in Igbogene, Yenagoa, after former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo, who is expected to be in the state for the programme, would visit the Ijaw National Academy to interact with secondary school students drawn from various parts of the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Kemela Okara, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson and his education counterpart, Jonathan Obuebite and other government officials were present at the event.

The SSG, who is the Chairman, Central Working Committee, said the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, Gen. Alani Akinrinade (rtd) and other dignitaries would declare some projects open.

Okara disclosed the projects to be inaugurated as the state secretariat annex, cultural boulevard, a pavilion at Oxbow Lake and health insurance office.

Others are doctor quarters, specialist hospital, drug mart, aquaculture village and the launch of a private refinery in Gbarain.

Iworiso-Markson said the government had achieved a lot in the last six, noting that though the governor was not known for praise-singing, it was important to showcase some of his achievements to correct misconceptions.
