Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has pledged not to award new contracts to prevent the incoming administration from being “trapped and disrespected,” while implementing terms of contracts.

Shettima made this pledge while meeting with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of manufacturers of medical equipment and teaching aids in India.

In a statement yesterday in Maiduguri, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mallam Isa Gusau said the governor would not award new contracts that will extend beyond his tenure. He said the Indian companies are to be awarded contracts for multi-sectoral supplies and projects in the education, health and vocational skills acquisition sectors and will be completed in six months, adding that he said he wants Umara to make his own decisions because he is the one that will work with suppliers or contractors for anything he signs.

At a meeting with IL and FS Education firms, Shettima told company’s Vice President, Milan Sharma that he prefers the firm to await for the Governor-elect, saying this will enable Umara make his own decision on whether his administration re-engages them or not.
