Ihedioha moves to tighten security in Imo hotels

Youths write INEC over Okorocha’s recall
Following the reported killing of a lady in an undisclosed hotel in Owerri, Imo State, Governor Emeka Ihedioha has urged the state legislature to come up with laws that will compel hotels in the state to ensure security of their guests.

This was contained in a 16-point communiqué issued at the end of a crucial security council meeting at Douglas House, Owerri, yesterday.

Ihedioha, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Chibuike Onyeukwu, also charged the security agencies to improve the security architecture to eradicate crime in the state.

He promised that his administration would provide the logistics and other assistance to support security agencies in the state.

According to the governor, the state will no longer be habitable for criminal elements, as no progress will be recorded without adequate security of lives and property.

He said, “We want to plead with you to step up your responsibilities. We are not oblivious of the fact that you all take risks, but you have to fish out the bad elements, so that they can stop contaminating us.

“What should be of concern to you are the innocent men and women who could be victims of these criminals. Let us collectively flush out the criminals in Imo. When you punish offenders, it will serve as deterrent to others.

“There should be a strong legislation compelling hoteliers to embrace measures to expose criminals who lodge in their facilities.”

Meanwhile, Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA) has taken further steps in the process of recalling former Governor Rochas Okorocha from the Senate.

Okorocha was elected in February to represent Imo West senatorial district in the red chamber.

In the formal application letter dated September 28, 2019 and directed to the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, through the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Francis Ezeonu, the youths requested that a register be opened for them to collect signatures of Orlu electorate, in line with Section 69 of 1999 Constitution.

Also in the letter signed by the president of OYA, Christian Okolie, and chairman of the Recall Committee, Collins Opuruzor, they urged INEC to assist them in the recall process.
