Worried by the attacks and killing of Ndigbo at the least provocation, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has sought President Muhammadu Buhari’s assurance that the federal government under his watch is still in the position and disposition to protect them and save them from unprovoked attacks by members of a religious sect.

The OYC also in a press release issued by the National Vice President, Mazi Obinna Achuonye and the Chairman of its States’ Chairmen, Mazi Alex Okemiri yesterday challenged South East state governors not to be indifferent to these happenings but come out courageously to defend Ndigbo both at home and abroad.

It indicated that any further killing of the Igbo in any part of the country on the basis of religion would attract their ire and stiff resistance, noting that their stand was sequel to the reported beheading of an Igbo woman in Kano on Thursday by alleged Muslim fanatics for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Mohammed.

It said: “Enough is enough, no attack on any Igbo man or woman within or outside Igboland will henceforth go unpunished.”

OYC wondered why Ndigbo should be slaughtered like fowls with the slightest provocation, asking if by these scenarios, the pre-civil war pogrom against Ndigbo, which eventually plunged Nigeria into “30- month civil unrest is not beginning to rear up again.

The group tasked Governor Abdulahi Ganduje of Kano State, his Niger State counterpart, Abubakar Sani Bello and the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous acts for prosecution otherwise “we will assume it was a conspiracy to decimate our people.”
