Idris denies alleged plans to impose his son as Kogi governor

A former of governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris, has denied allegations that he is behind plans to impose candidates of various political positions on the state ahead of the 2019 elections.

Report in the social media had accused the former governor, who is the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, of using his position to impose his son Abubakar Idris as the next governor.

This was contained in a statement issued yesterday, a copy of which was made available to The Guardian in Lokoja, the state capital.

Idris described the online report as the handiwork of his detractors who are looking for a foothold to discredit his reputation, adding the said report is spurious, wicked and satanic.

“No amount of distraction would debar us from leading a credible opposition that would return the PDP to government in Kogi State.

The sponsors of the write up have failed in their bid at blackmailing Idris because he is too focused to be distracted.

“Idris is a successful businessman and respected politician with tremendous respect for democratic ethos, dialogue and team work, credentials that set aside his nine years in public office for unequalled peace, cohesion and development in the state.

“He is a responsible father, who through the grace of Allah, has withheld nothing for the training of his heirs, children and dependents,” the statement reads.

It added that Idris believes in giving his children the best education possible to earn them a good start in life that would enable them to hold their own anywhere and at anytime.

“Certainly, I do not believe in close-circuiting or abridging the process to fast track success for anyone.

Idris does not believe in imposition of candidates, nor does he have power to impose his choice on others.
