I Have Forgiven Suswam, Tor Tiv -Reinstated Benue Monarch
A reinstated monarch in Benue State, His Royal Highness, Ter Nagi II, Chief Daniel Abomtse, has said that, though deposed one month to the end of Governor Gabriel Suswam’s administration, he has forgiven the immediate past governor and his father, Tor Tiv IV, Dr. Alfred Akawe, who was complicit in the act.
Abomtse, who said this at Naka, Headquarters of Gwer-West Local Council, during a royal reception in his honor, following his reinstatement as second-class chief by Governor Samuel Ortom’s administration, maintained that he was not vexed, as “to err is human and to forgive is divine.”
“Even as I was deposed one month to the expiration of the administration of Governor Suswam in circumstances that are still shrouded in mystery and discernible, I bear no grudge, ill-feelings or sinister motive against my former governor and my father, the Tor Tiv,” Abomtse stated.
He contended that the combined actions of the duo has only succeeded in crowning him as the first chief to be deposed in the modern Benue society and the very first to be reinstated to office within 35 days by a “man of God,” Governor Samuel Ortom.
Chief Abomtse prayed for the success of the new administration, which is anchored on the fear of God, transparency, accountability, the rule of law and due process.
Reacting to the development, an indigene of the area and President, Tyoshin Development Association, Dr Sylvester Ugbegili, said the reinstatement of Chief Abomtse is the beginning of peace in the area.
Ugbegili said that Chief Abomtse’s second coming was a step towards reconciliation as his deposition had resulted in crisis. “Today the people of Tyoshin are happy that their son that was unduly disposed has been reinstated,” he maintained.
The ceremony attracted a mammoth crowd, including eminent personalities within and outside the state, traditional rulers under the Nagi traditional stool as well as those from the surrounding communities.
It would also be recalled that Chief Abomtse was ousted at the twilight of governor Gabriel Suswam’s administration for allegations that been investigated and debunked by a panel set up by Ortom’s government.
