I don’t have any preferred candidate, says Jang.
The immediate past governor of Plateau State and current Senator representing Plateau Northern Senatorial District, Senator Jonah David Jang, has said that he does not have any preferred candidate amongst the four People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship aspirants from the zone. Rather, according to Jang, he is ready and prepared to work with anyone who emerges as the chairman of the party in the northern zone. Former Minister of Sports, Mr. Damishi Sango, former member of the House of Representatives, representing Jos South/Jos East, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, the longest serving Attorney – General in the state and current member of Representatives representing Jos South/Jos East, Hon. Edward Pwajok among others are vying for the chairmanship of the party in the state.
Of the six local government areas that make up the northern zone, the chairmanship slot was zoned to Riyom council to produce a candidate. Other councils are Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Jos North, Jos East and Bassa. Speaking through his Political Aide, Mr. Clinton Garuba, in a chat with journalists yesterday, denied that Jang had a preferred candidate. Ayuba has in his statement, alluded to the fact that Jang had a vested interest and a choice candidate and that he influenced the choice of Riyom. Garuba said that whatever ambition anybody has, Jang is not threatened in anyway.
“He is already an established leader on the Plateau and cannot be intimidated by whatever all his former aides become. Afterall, most of them who still occupy any offices today rode on the back of his magnanimity to rise to those positions, and as a good father, he desires to see his children surpass his achievements.” On Tuesday, Garuba in a statement said that Jang urged all the politicians in the state to abide by the zoning position churned out by the party’s Executive Committee (EXCO). He said it had become imperative to make the statement in order to put the records straight and avoid the antics of a few people who wish to use falsehoods, half truths and all manner of deceptions to sway the minds of unassuming loyal party members.
