Hundreds of Kaduna APC members decamp to PDP, burn brooms
Hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend.
The former APC members were led by erstwhile chairman of the Kaduna State PDP Alhaji Yaro Makama Rigachikin, a political ally of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku who joined APC in 2015 has dumped the party and returned to the PDP along with his followers at the weekend in Kaduna at a gathering attended by opposition party leaders.
At the occasion, Rigachikun said he made a grave mistake by joining APC in 2015. “The ruling party today has proven to Nigerians that the government is a failure, going by the level of poverty in the land.”
According to him, APC has shown that it has no capacity to govern and deliver dividends of democracy to the people, the time has come to “change the change.” “I thought the party would address the numerous problems confronting Nigerians, but since its assumption of power, Nigerians have been plunged into untold hardship and distress.”
Rigachikun condemned the sacking of teachers and local government workers in Kaduna State by Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He said the governor should start packing his belongings from the Government House, as the people would not vote him again in 2019 because of his unpopular policies that plunged the state into difficulties.
“The APC has brought much suffering to Nigerians, in Kaduna state, the teachers are crying, local government workers are suffering and traditional institutions are ridiculed. The school feeding programme is in comatose, in fact, nothing is working in the state, so we must change the change,” he said.
