How to overcome recession, by AMORC

Only attitudinal change and increased production of goods and services would take the country out of the current economic recession. This was disclosed by the Administrator of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, Prof. Timothy A.T. Wahua, in Enugu at the weekend.

He spoke on “Rosicrucianism for Socio-Economic Development” at the 41st Eastern regional rotational conclave of the Order. He said the country’s over reliance on oil was the main reason for the recession, which only a change in people’s attitude would reverse.

Wahua urged those blaming President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for the current woes to have a rethink, adding that “crucifying” him or members of his cabinet would not solve the problem.

According to him: “If you have a country where everybody depended at a particular time on oil money to be shared and nobody was producing anything, the current situation was not totally unexpected.

“We have all become economic parasites and since the oil base that government relied on had been removed and the population is on the rise, the multiplier effect would naturally cut across at the individual, collective and national levels.

“The take-home lesson for all is that Nigeria has no alternative than to learn how to produce. We have the potential, the land; sea and the political stability that are needed to navigate through. But how do we move forward with the human capacity on ground?”

According to him, there is hardly any country in the world where you won’t find a Nigerian at the top level of intellectuality. But when we fail to build the capacity to sustain that level of growth, the problem would be difficult to solve.

“This recession is a blessing to us because many people have now realised how a problem in government could affect the ordinary man. For instance, a woman in the village who used to sell one Akara at N10.00, has increased the price to N50.00, because the exchange rate of the naira to the American dollar had increased,” he added.

Wahua, however, stressed that for production to be effective, there must be an improvement in basic infrastructure like roads and electricity. He urged the Federal Government to address these decay in infrastructure, noting that the Rosicrucian Order have been making useful contributions to the economy through its teachings on humanity and sincerity in planning.

Also, the Grand Regional Administrator and President of the Order, Kenneth U. Idiodi, explained that the country must embrace enlightened men and women of unselfish integrity to drive government’s policies.
