•Adeboye tasks youths on leadership

Labour leader, Comrade Issa Aremu, says for the Not Too Young to Run law to be meaningful, the Federal Government must ensure the provision of jobs to the army of the unemployed in the country.

According to him, only sustainable youthful employment and developmental programme that could make Nigerian youths take full advantage of the law.A National Executive Council (NEC) member of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Aremu said the law was President Buhari’s historic signature bill, noting that the new Act would foster inclusiveness of youth in nation-building as envisaged by the United Nation Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

He pointed out that the law has altered some provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to review age requirements for elective offices.Aremu said the new law was of significance to the labour movement, noting: It “has also been promoting youth and women participation in trade union activities.The labour chief added that without “full decent sustainable employment and quality education, 10 million Nigerian unemployed youths can hardly lead themselves, let alone talk of leading a nation like
Nigeria begging for fresh energy and ideas.”

He called for the immediate implementation of the youth policy recommendations in the 2014 confab report.However, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor, Enoch Adeboye, has urged to prioritise leadership in the wake of the law recently sanctioned by the President.

Speaking yesterday at the church’s national headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos, the respected cleric wondered if the youths were actually ready to take over the mantle of leadership in the country.His words: “Are the youths ready? Are they prepared? Because it is one thing to agitate for something, and another, to get yourself ready.

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, Admin and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, advised Nigerian youths to be open to learning, just as he stressed the embracing of entrepreneurship for national development.

He warned that by the time they (youths) start preparation after opportunities surface, they might end up missing it. “The government has done the needful, the youths need to get themselves prepare for responsibilities and leadership,” Adeboye added.
