Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu has insisted that there is a strong link between corruption and growing insecurity bedeviling the country.

Magu, who made the assertion in Ibadan, Oyo State yesterday on Eagle Alert, a Diamond 101.1 FM radio programe, therefore, canvassed an urgent need for concerted effort against graft in order to achieve peace in Nigeria.

The EFCC Chairman, who was represented by Head, Ibadan Zonal Office, Friday Ebelo, noted that the deprivation caused by corruption has created a fertile ground for all forms of crimes, which threaten national peace and security.

Answering questions on the programme, he said: “You can’t separate the growing insecurity in the country from corruption. The surest path to peace in Nigeria is to end corruption.

“If we succeed in stemming corruption, we will birth a workable system that will ensure that the country’s infrastructure deficits will be addressed.

“Ignorance will be kept at bay and there will be more jobs for Nigerians. All that will effectively address insecurity.”

While urging cooperation from members of the public in the campaign against corruption, Magu stated that in spite of the powers the law granted EFCC, the commission could not win the war against graft alone.

He also charged parents to show genuine interest in the development of their wards, adding that rather than encourage unmerited flamboyancy, they must ask sincere questions when they notice that their children start living questionable life styles.

Eagle Alert, a weekly sensitisation programme on University of Ibadan radio station, was designed to propagate EFCC’s activities and avail members of the public opportunity to take advantage of its mandates.
