The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi was allegedly attacked by hoodlums, suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in Madrid, Spain while on official assignment on climate change.

Amaechi, on his Twitter handle, yesterday said, “Some minutes ago, I was attacked by a few misguided Nigerians while on a national assignment, at a climate change event in Madrid, Spain.”

He said the hoodlums were quickly repelled by the Spanish police before they could do any harm.

“I am fine. I was not hurt. Thanks for your support and prayers,” he stated.

Amaechi departed the country for Spain on Tuesday night. However, details of the alleged attack were not available as at the time of filing the report.

Recall that the immediate past Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was recently physically assaulted at a cultural event in Germany.

The incident raised a palpable fear among the political class, making them to maintain low profile each time they travel overseas.
