Health workers under the umbrella body of National Union of Allied Health Professionals yesterday at the Governor’s Office in Alausa, Lagos, protested over corruption and what they described as continued discrimination among the medical professionals and dichotomy in medical laboratory services across the country.

They marched through the major roads around the secretariat singing solidarity songs and threatening to embark on an indefinite strike on February 27, if their demands are not addressed in the shortest possible time.

Led by its National President, Comrade Ogbonna Obinna Chimela, they demanded implementation of consultancy status to qualified healthcare professionals, especially for the pharmacist and others that have reached advanced stage, approval and payment of enhanced call duty and non-clinical duty allowance as approved by salaries and wages commission which have been implemented in the federal institutions.

Chimela, who also handed over a copy of the petition to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who addressed them, for onward delivery to the Health Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole appealed for a quick intervention in their demands which, he said, would go a long way in boosting and strengthening the health care services to the door step of the teeming members of the public.
