The spate of insecurity in Kogi Central seems to be assuming a more dangerous dimension, as gunmen yesterday invaded a Police station at Eika in Okehi Council of Kogi State, killing two Policemen on duty.

The attackers also killed one detainee in Police custody, burned down the station and killed a community leader, Mallam Sadiq Obomi.

This occurred a few days after a passenger bus on transit from Abuja to Onitsha was ambushed and six passengers abducted along the Okene-Lokoja road.

It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering 10, invaded the community in a commando style about 1 am, shooting sporadically as they moved towards the station.

An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, disclosed that the gunmen came in two vehicles and fired continuous as they drove to the station.

The source further said the two policemen and the detainee were killed on the spot, while the station and some motorcycles parked there were razed down.

He explained that the gunmen later went to Obomi’s residence and gunned him down before escaping in the attack that lasted two hours.

Ostensibly to forestall future occurrence, armed soldiers have been deployed to the community.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdullahi Chafe, has confirmed the attack.
