Gunmen kill PDP youth leader in Benue

SOME unidentified gunmen yesterday assassinated a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Youth leader in Lessel, Ushongo Local Council of Benue State.

An eyewitness in the area who narrated the incident to The Guardian but pleaded anonymity, said the gunmen in their numbers stormed the residence of the youth leader whose name was given as Ternenge Gbuuga, shot and killed him before fleeing to an unknown destination.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations’ Officer, ASP Austin Ezeani, said the gunmen, who were numbering four, had stormed the home of the deceased in early the hours of yesterday and shot him at close range.

Ezeani who said no arrest has been made, however said investigation into the murder has commenced assuring that the culprits must be apprehended to face the full wrath of the law.

The Guardian gathered that in recent times, gunmen in a killer squad have been traumatizing residents of the state, some of the arrested ones were recently paraded before journalists by the state Commissioner of Police, Hyacinth Dagala.

    as a Nigerian, this is very sad to see, especially in this tense post-election period. most will not want any form of violence to be associated with democratic transitions. it is detrimental to the entire process, and leads to fear among the masses, thus causing non-participation. hopefully this will change.
    one thing though, we have to respect the dead. local journalists of nowadays are quick to post pictures of corpses on social media and in news posts without thinking of how those grieving may feel concerning the spread of such images. it is better if another picture be used.
