Gunmen abduct three-day -old baby in Owerri
Gunmen on Thursday night abducted a three-day-old baby at the ever-busy Ama Hausa area on Douglas Road, Owerri, the Imo State capital, whose mother is said to be fruit seller by the roadside.
The eyewitness, who is a bus driver, told The Guardian that the woman was carrying the child in her hand when the abductors came in a commando style, brandishing guns, and forcefully ordered her to surrender the child.
The source said the woman, in tears, handed in the child to them and they sped off.“We were there when the woman, who sales fruits, was carrying her three-day-old baby and some boys came with guns, asking the woman to give them her child. She started crying before surrendering the child to them.
“This is sacrilege. I feel those people must have taken the child for ritual purpose,” he said.Similar incidents occurred in some parts of the state some years ago before security operatives curtailed the trend. As at time of filing this report, the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ikeokwu Orlando, could not be reached for comments.
