A community-based group canvassing for the rights and development of the Niger Delta region has warned against the politicisation of Elder Ibanga Etang’s death, the erstwhile Executive Director, Finance and Administration on the interim management committee of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The group, “Uko Ndito Ekid”, in a statement, issued a stern warning to various groups, senior citizens, authorities and others within Eket Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State to immediately desist from politicising Etang’s demise, as a group like Afigh Iwaad Ekid was trying to score cheap political points in the unfolding drama, days after he passed on.

Recently, Afigh and its leaders protested at the NDDC Uyo office, demanding Justice for late Etang.

But the spokesperson of Uko Ndito Ekid, Mrs. Ime I. Willie, described the protest as the height of hypocrisy and public display of crocodile tears.

The group, therefore, appealed to all, irrespective of status, rank or position to sheath their sword and let the soul of the departed rest in peace.

“If our deceased illustrious son, patron and rising star could not be honoured while alive, of what importance is it to cry foul about his death,” the group queried.
