Group trains CSO, journalists on tracking illegal property

To report illicit property in the FCT, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), has trained members of Civil Society Organisations and journalists on tracking illicit property in the country.

The training is coming on the heels of the launch of property tracker website, code name ‘www.propati tracka.com’ by ANEEJ.Executive Director, ANEEJ, David Ugolor said the website will unmask owners of illegal assets in Asokoro, Maitama, and Wuse Districts.He added that funds generated from the exposed property could better be used to address critical infrastructure across different sectors for national development.

According to him, the proceeds of crime are oftentimes hidden in foreign safe havens abroad or used for acquisition of private property within and outside Nigeria. The project, he said is targeted at encouraging government to adopt non-conviction asset forfeiture approach to check sharp practices and channel proceeds from seized houses to finance development initiatives.
