Group Seeks 35% Affirmation For Women

A GROUP, Global Peace Development (GPD), has advocated for the implementation of United Nations Resolution 1325, which provides for 35 per cent affirmation for women in Delta state.

Speaking during the weekend at a workshop at Ashaka, Ndokwa East Local Council, the Project Director of GPD, Mr. Esike Onajite Ebruke told participants that the purpose of the workshop was to give women and girls voice and visibility in line with United Nations Resolution.

Meanwhile, the Executive Coordinator of Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation (AAAF), Mrs. Foluke Ademokun, has charged women to embrace healthy competition.

Ademokun, who spoke at the foundation bi-monthly stakeholders meeting in Lagos recently, said “women should promote healthy competition and support themselves, not measuring their successes on other persons’ successes, because women are contributors to nation-building as their male counterparts.”

Addressing the participants at the forum, she urged the women to believe in themselves, adding that they should discard stereotypes.

The Executive Coordinator maintained that “wherever Nigeria is going, let there be women contributors in the different sectors”.
Also speaking, Agricultural Consultant and Trainer, Mrs. Mope Omotosho, counseled women to engaged in one form of vocation or the other.
