The Atiku Campaign Organisation has cautioned Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano against campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

It argued that his support for the President runs contrary to the Igbo collective and corporate interests.

Director General of the Atiku-Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCO) in Anambra State, Dr. Harry Oranezi, issued the warning yesterday.

Oranezi said this in a statement issued shortly after an emergency meeting of the party at its office in Awka.

He expressed worry over Obiano’s pro-Buhari posture, which according to him, was in utter disregard for his (Buhari’s) penchant for marginalising the Southeast geo-political zone and Anambra State in particular.

The reaction followed recent comments credited to Obiano in which he commended President Buhari for factoring Igbo interest into his policies and programmes shortly after inspecting the Nnamdi Azikiwe Mausoleum and Second Niger Bridge.

Obiano had described the projects as a plus for the President, especially as he aims to complete them, having been abandoned over 21 years ago.

“Atiku-Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, Anambra State chapter has decried Governor Obiano’s uncritical adulation of President Buhari over the purported development of Igboland.

“It could at best be described as a subtle campaign of undeserved goodwill bearing in mind the injustice, inequities and discriminatory propensities of the Buhari court against the Southeast geo-political zone.

“For example, Buhari has continued to maintain silence over the massacre of innocent Igbo in the North, the high-handedness and mistreatment of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) leaders, exclusion of Southeast in rail connection, security architecture and sundry appointments.

“The Igbo shall not be deceived by the actions and utterances of persons who want to achieve ill-conceived objectives and will certainly demonstrate their preference for good governance and strive to make Nigeria work again,” the statement reads.

He, however, commended wife of former Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Board of Trustees (BOT), Bianca Ojukwu, for condemning bad leadership and admonished Ndigbo to emulate her and not stoop to groveling inclinations.
