Group decries prolonged silence on Jibrin’s suspension

A group, the Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF) has raised alarm over the prolonged silence on the suspension of Abdulmumuni Jibrin, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives.

The group said the prolonged suspension of the lawmaker from the House for over one legislative year has denied his constituency of their entitlement and representation in the House.

In a statement signed by its President, Abdulsalam Muhammad Kazeem, UNYF lamented that Nigeria’s judicial system has been politicised, adding: “Our judiciary has found it very difficult to interpret just a single section of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on whether the leadership of the House has the moral right to suspend Jibrin or not.

“The said suspension has kept him away from the Green Chamber for over one legislative year and as such, the good people of his constituency have been denied representation for some strategic reasons best known to the powers-that-be in Nigeria.

“As it stands today, the people of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency should not blame the leadership of House, but the judiciary for its inability to discharge its responsibility effectively and efficiently on the said case.

“We respectfully appeal to all Judges to demonstrate patriotism and good leadership at all time, as it will greatly help to restore hope in our judicial arm of government.”
