Group chides politicians for failing Nigerians
A Non-Governmental Organisation, New Light of Today’s Leaders Initiative (NETLIN), has scolded politicians for failing Nigerians.
The group’s Vice President, Paul Church Ukah, disclosed this position yesterday at a press conference in Lagos, titled “Hope for Nigeria.”
He accused the country’s leadership of failing to take the country to the Promised Land since 1999, when democracy was restored.
They lamented how they had been relegated to the backseat since the return to democratic rule.
Ukah expressed concern that those who governed Nigeria in 1979 are still ruling the country today.
He expressed worry that the present generations of political leaders have not achieved anything since they took over from the last generation.
He said: “They couldn’t fix power, roads, schools and hospitals. The structural defect of our country that they contributed to bringing to the fore in 1966 is yet to be addressed.
“They have wasted billions of taxpayers’ money and our oil wealth in organising talk shops that they tagged conferences and confabs without result.
“They couldn’t even fix the security sector, provide jobs for the teaming unemployed people, or provide a conducive environment for business to thrive.
The group, which claimed to have representatives in 29 states, is seeking to mobilise, sensitise and sustain the drive for youths’ participation in politics, at the state and local government levels.
