Group, APC chief express concern about security situation

Anon-governmental group, the League of National Patriots (LNP), has strongly condemned the spate of killings and destruction of property across the country especially in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Also, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun State chapter, Tajudeen Lemboye yesterday expressed deep concern about the increasing insecurity in the country and appealed to all Nigerians to join hands with the government, their political affiliations notwithstanding, to fight the menace.

The national coordinator of the group, Abdulkareem Abdullahi, berated the Federal Government for not doing enough to address the menace that is almost dividing the nation along religious and ethnic lines. He cited clear examples with the recent killings and destruction of properties in Adamawa and Kaduna and Benue states.

Wondering why the development is escalating at an alarming rate from one state to the other unabated, the group blamed law enforcement agencies particularly the police and DSS for not being able to manage and arrest the crises and violence before they erupt and spread.

Abdulkareem called on the Buhari administration to find a lasting solution to the menace and “total disregard for human lives and properties that may lead to complete anarchy and break down of law and order in the country.”

The LNP reminded the federal government of its responsibility to secure the lives and properties of the Nigerian people irrespective of their religion and geo-political locations, stressing that this must be done in fairness and equitably. In his words, “the situation is now very fragile and the federal government must handle it with the seriousness it requires.

In the process, the president, the law enforcement agencies and the judicial must be able to manage possible sentiments that will rear their heads along the line.

Nigerians and the whole world are watching with keen interest waiting to see what arrests of perpetrators and sponsors would be made, the process of prosecution, trials, resettlements and other necessary actions that must be taken by this administration to assure Nigerians that it can be trusted with the lives and properties of the citizens of this country.”

Lemboye who spoke in Abeokuta yesterday, also urged Nigerians of all faiths to pray fervently for peace, stability and progress of the country.

His words: “Right now there are massacres going on in Benue, Boko Haram everywhere; all these things we don’t need in Nigeria. Everybody needs prayers, the party needs prayers, the state needs prayers, the President needs prayers, the governors need prayers and Nigeria as a whole needs prayers.”
