State governors yesterday congratulated Nigerians on the Eid-el-Kabir. They urge the citizens to work hard and embrace true sacrifice to overcome the nation’s challenges.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode called on Muslims in the country to embrace the tenets of sacrifice, patience, humility and brotherly love, saying that the significance of the celebration should go beyond festivities.

In a Sallah message by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, Ambode said the period of the celebration is one that calls for every Muslim and other Nigerians to imbibe the values of sacrifice and endurance.

His Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa charged Muslims to reflect on the various challenges facing the nation and support the government to surmount the problems.

Okowa, who made the charge in a goodwill message issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, to mark Eid-el-Kabir, stressed the need for Nigerians to be their brothers’ keepers.

“I call on all Muslims to use the period to reflect on the various challenges facing the nation. It takes the concerted efforts of all to achieve meaningful development in any nation, especially in a period of economic recession,” he stated.

“As we celebrate this occasion, let us renew our faith in our nation and implore the Almighty God to restore to us those values that place high premium on human life, love of neighbours and sharing as we strive to make our country take her place in the comity of nations,” Ambode stated.

He said the prevailing economic recession was only a phase that will pave the way for a new dawn in the country soon, assuring that the Federal Government is making efforts to salvage the situation.

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State have urged Nigerians, especially Muslims to take advantage of the period of Eid-el Kabir to offer special prayers for the peace and unity of the country.

In a Sallah message issued by Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, Mimiko called for continuous prayers and the co-operation of everyone to rescue the nation from her challenges.

The governor maintained that Nigeria was not created to be a problem to herself and neighbours but that it rather has the potential of a global model and solution provider.

Ugwuanyi said it was only through prayers and absolute faith in God that Nigeria can overcome her socio-cultural and economic difficulties.

Ibikunle Amosun, the Ogun State governor appealed to Nigerians, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political leanings to join hands with the Federal Government in its efforts to revive the economy.

“If we all come together irrespective of our religious, ethnic and political differences to contribute our quota to the development of this country, I have no doubt that Nigeria will speedily overcome its current economic challenges,” Amosun said.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo in a statement issued yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, promised Muslims in the state of adequate protection.

According to the statement: “Okorocha assured Muslims in the state that Imo people would continue to live in peace with them as it has been the case.”

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has called for fervent prayers for the safe return of pilgrims in the holy land.

The governor in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Yomi Layinka said: “We should pray for the safe return of those on holy pilgrimage to Mecca, as well as for other Muslims from every part of the world. Let us also pray for the peace, progress and economic emancipation of our dear country.”
