Government to concession hydro plants for improved electricity
The Federal Government has disclosed plans to concession five hydro power plants as part of measures to boost electricity supply in the country.
Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, told newsmen in Abuja that the nation has a hydro power potential of 12,220 mega watts, out of which only 1,930 mega watts had been developed at Kainji, Jebba and Shiroro dams.
He said government would soon concession the 30MW Gurara, 40MW Kashimbilla as well as the 350MW Gurara II hydro power plants.
Other dams billed for the exercise, according to the minister, include the 750MW Lokoja and 1000MW Markudi hydro power plants.
