Government supports Isoko initiative to generate 20mw electricity

The Delta State government has approved a move by the Isoko ethnic nationality to generate 20MW of electricity to the national grid. The approval came through the state’s ministry of urban development.

The approval was affirmed by the Commissioner for Urban Development, Karo Ilolo, who represented the government while addressing a stakeholders’ meeting presided over by the President-General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), Chief Iduh Amaidhe, in conjunction with the Thames Vpower Group.

The event took place at Chief James Ekpre Otobo Hall at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area. While emphasizing the economic importance of electricity in industrialization and development of Isoko land through investment and increase in small-scale business, Ilolo noted that the project was dear to his heart and the state government as all modalities were being put in place to ensure that the area gets constant power supply.

He, however, commended the efforts of the Isoko South and North local government chairmen, Sir Constantine Ikpokpo and Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor, as well as Chief Amaidhe and the company to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the area.

The Managing Director of the firm, Engineer Ben Ikpokpo noted that Isoko has the gas needed to generate regular power. He added that the state has the land, sub-station and generating set, assuring that the company would generate the power for onward distribution to consumers through the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

The Head of BEDC for Delta State, Mr. Ernest Edgar, assured of its commitment to the project, adding that it would do everything possible to meet expectations.
