The Federal Government says it has commenced a countdown on the enforcement of the three Executive Orders issued by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and advised agencies’ heads charged with the responsibility of their enforcement not to be vulnerable as there were grave consequences.

Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, gave the update in Abuja at the weekend while speaking to reporters on modalities to ensure strict compliance by government functionaries.

This is to achieve the vision of promoting the culture of transparency, accountability, express service delivery and patriotism aimed at making Nigeria becoming one of the best 50 countries in the world as investment destinations.

The timelines for enforcement of the new directives range from 21 to 60 days. Government, according to Enelamah has commenced on the countdown so as not to miss on any gain because it is no longer business as usual.

His words: “The first thing to note is that these are rules and regulations of engagement of government and the civil servants understand the importance of rules. Number two is that we are having a meeting like this so that the public is also aware and the citizens are empowered with information and understanding of their right so that they, in effect, can demand those services, because that is what the law says. The third is that if you read the executive orders carefully, they include sanctions and consequences and who is responsible.’’

With specific reference as the order affects service delivery at the airports and seaports, the minister revealed that collaboration and sensitization engagements have commenced between the port managers to ensure a seamless transition to a new culture of work environment.

Also, part of the directives in the Order requires the merger of the departure and arrival interfaces at the airport into a single customer interface within 30 days without prejudice to necessary backend procedures.

It also requires the harmonisation of operations of all MDAs of government physically present at the point into one interface station or desk domiciled in one location in the port and implemented by a single joint tax force at all times without prejudice to necessary backend procedures within 60 days, among other directives aimed at eliminating time wasting and avenue for fleecing of passengers at the ports.
