Ghana First Lady to attend Abuja workshop on sexual abuse

Wife of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs Rebecca Nana Akufo Addo, would be attending the forthcoming all-important workshop on Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) scheduled to hold in Abuja next month.

In a press release by Jose Foundation yesterday in Abuja, president of the Foundation, Dr Martins Abhulimhen, said the Ghanaian First Lady indicated her willingness to grace the occasion after a brief discussion with the management of Jose Foundation in London recently.

He said Mrs Akufo Addo expressed her love for children and frowned at the consistent attacks on minors who are daily abused and sexually exploited in Africa.

“We informed the First Lady of Ghana, Mrs Rebecca Nana Akufo Addo of our forthcoming workshop holding in Abuja from June 11-14, on how to address the menace of Child Sexual Exploitation in Nigeria with our team of experts from the United Kingdom and United States of America who will be on ground to train stakeholders in ways of tackling the problem.

“We also told her that a similar workshop is being planned for Ghana to proffer solutions to the problem in the country. Jose Foundation is undertaking a nationwide campaign and taking it across our country borders to other African countries in a bid to end CSE,” he said.

Abhulimhen also stated that the foundation is campaigning to get international standards and recommended practice on child sexual exploitation across the globe.

He noted that the workshop promises to be instrumental in changing understandings to curb “this heinous crime against children and the vulnerable in our nation”.
