Gang rape: Varsity suspends three male students
The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State has suspended three male students who gang-raped a female year-one student.
The affected students include Nnamdi Destiny of Department of Political Science; Ovunwo Henry of Sociology Department and Samuel Valentine, a 300 level student of Political Science.
The first two suspects were arrested and handed over to the Police, while the third accused is still at large.
Meanwhile, the university management has banned opposite sex visit by students of the institution. The female student was said to have visited his boyfriend in the hostel, where her male friend and two other gang-raped her.
The matter has also been referred to the Students Disciplinary Committee to decide the fate of the students, while the room the crime was committed has been sealed.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele said “Any student found guilty of visiting the opposite sex in the hostel, no matter the time of the day, puts himself/herself and the occupants of such a room at high risk.”
