Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has imposed total lockdown of Kano for initial seven days effective from 10 pm on Thursday, 16th April 2020.

The stay at home order, according to Ganduje, would include total shut down of places of worship including mosques, churches and markets.

Ganduje declared the lockdown on Tuesday while addressing Islamic scholars at the Government House. The governor insisted that the decision became necessary to curtail further spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He appealed for total compliance with the stay-at-home order and explained that Kano cannot be left unsecured in the wake of the raging virus.

The state ministry of health had earlier confirmed additional case of COVID-19 pandemic, putting total positive case at four.

The fourth positive case was among the direct contacts of the index case, a 75 years old former ambassador, confirmed on Saturday evening.

The two subsequent positive cases recorded on Monday, recently returned from Istanbul, Turkey, two weeks.
